I’m a self-admitted lifelong learner and am always happy to delve into a variety of topics related to running. I hope you find these as useful and interesting as I do!
First and foremost, this article is a great reminder that there is no one “perfect” workout that we should all be doing. Everyone is searching for a hack to better fitness and quicker improvement, and that just doesn’t happen. Running coach Jason Koop doesn’t mince any words as he delves into this topic, looking at the latest trend of super short intervals and whether or not they benefit our fitness. 2020 is the year of “Mastering your Mindset” on Strength Running, and with good cause. The mental side of running is so important, whether you’re racing a 5k or 100 miles. Here’s some basics from my friend and former coach Jason Fitzgerald to get started in training your brain. The Olympic Trials are right around the corner. February 29th, to be exact. If you’re a fan of ultrarunning, you no doubt know the name Jim Walmsley. If you follow him on Strava, you know he is willing to share his incredible training weeks with mileage and workouts that leave most of us in awe. Can he compete with the best at the marathon distance though? We’ll find out soon. Read a little more about his background and training history here. Being sick the past week I had some extra time on the couch to watch come slightly longer form videos that I might not have taken the time for otherwise. This is short (13-minute) film about an incredible athlete who made a bigger impact than he could have imagined in a small town in northern Spain. Racing the mile is a bit of a lost art. I’ve been considering tackling the short and intense pain of the mile, just to see what I’d be capable of pushing myself to accomplish. If you live in the Philadelphia area, this looks like a great event to give it a try.
